More about the WWP

Current Status: After taking off a year to reorganize, the Wyoming Writing Project is back in business! In July 2009 we held a very successful Invitational Summer Institute, hosting an even dozen Writing Fellows from, literally, Wyoming's four corners. Based on this extremely strong foundation we will continue to rebuild and expand the WWP across the Equality State.

Mission: Our goal is to improve the quality of writing and writing instruction across all K-16 curricula. We will also enhance professional development, individual and collective research, and effective leadership throughout Wyoming.

Objective: As demonstrated by the 2009 Invitational Summer Institute, our objective is to put the "Wyoming" back in the Wyoming Writing Project.

Challenge: Our wide open spaces have always been one of Wyoming's greatest attractions and one of our most daunting educational challenges. We have approximately 6,000 teachers scattered over 97,000 square miles; an occasional sense of isolation is almost inevitable. However, these 6,000 individuals represent some of the finest teachers in the United States. Using all the modern means at our disposal, the WWP is determined to build a strong and effective community among Wyoming's educators.
