Anonymous HIV Testing

The University of Wyoming Wellness Center now offers free, anonymous HIV testing and counseling to UW students.  Anonymous testing means no record of identity (e.g., name or contact information) will be kept.  We will, however, obtain basic demographic information (e.g., ethnicity, age, sex, etc.) for data collection purposes.

We utilize the OraSure Testing procedure, which is less invasive than a blood test.  This procedure involves swabbing the inside of the cheek to collect HIV-Type I antibodies. The error rate of this test is approximately 2%.  If an individual tests “positive”, it will be recommended that he/she take a blood test at UW Student Health for $10.  Additionally, individuals who test positive will be asked to change their identity from anonymous to confidential.  This change will allow us to connect you with the Wyoming State Health Department and other appropriate services.  For individuals whose test results are “inconclusive”, the option of taking an additional OraSure test will be provided, or it will be recommended that he/she take a blood test.

Following the test, a card with an ID number will be provided.  Presenting this card and ID number are the only way results can be obtained, so please bring it with you when you return to get the test results.  Results will not be given by phone or email.  Test results will be available after 2 weeks.

Students need to call ahead to schedule an appointment(766-3546). Please note  Please note, no name or contact information will be obtained when scheduling an appointment.

Hours for HIV Testing Clinic

Electronic Wellness Assessment

We currently offer the TestWell Wellness Inventory.  This program consists of 100 items that provide a broad assessment of an individual's current state of holistic wellness.  Information about strengths and weaknesses are provided.  If interested, students are welcome to discuss their scores with our staff in order to generate a behavior change plan to increase personal wellness.  It is recommended that students call ahead to make an appointment for this service early in the semester.  This test usually takes 10-15 minutes to complete.  There is no cost for this service, as it is paid for with student fees.

Dietary/Nutrition Counseling

We offer individual nutrition assessment and dietary programs to UW students.  This service is intended to help students develop healthy eating habits, which is important for reducing long-term weight-related complications (e.g., obesity, heart disease, etc.). Our nutrition consultants are senior-level dietetic students who work under the supervision of a UW faculty member.  Appointments are made based on the availability of the nutrition consultants.  There is no fee for this service, as it is paid for with student fees.  Prior to the first appointment, students are required to complete appropriate paperwork.  We ask that a valid UW student ID be presented.

Educational Programming

The Wellness Center currently offers several outreach programs that focus on preventive health and health-promotion issues.  Topics include:

  • sexual health
