Joy Williams, winner of the 1999 Rea Award for the Short Story, has accepted the Eminent Writer-in-Residence endowed chair position for the 2008-09 academic year.

Joy Williams is the second Eminent Writer-in-Residence at UW (remarkably, also the second chair with the last name "Williams"), following Terry Tempest Williams, who filled the position in 2007-08. For more information on Terry Tempest Williams, please visit this page.

By allowing the university to bring in a new, well-known creative writer each year, this endowed position will help cement the reputation of the M.F.A. as a nationally competitive program in creative writing and will also significantly enhance UW’s curriculum in English composition more generally.

For more information on the visiting Eminent Writer-in-Residence position, please contact Harvey Hix, director, M.F.A. in Creative Writing, College of Arts and Sciences.
