University of Wyoming
Welcome to Veterinary Sciences

Thank you for visiting the web site of the University of Wyoming's Department of Veterinary Sciences. Our department operates the Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory, a full-service diagnostic laboratory that has been accredited since 1989 by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians. Our laboratory provides testing and research services to veterinarians, animal owners and wildlife managers throughout Wyoming and the region. In cooperation with the UW Department of Animal Science, we run the Pre-Veterinary Medicine Option. Faculty in the veterinary sciences department are heavily engaged in the interdisciplinary Microbiology Program, an externship program for junior and senior veterinary students, and in training first-year medical students in the regional medical program WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho).

Wyoming is a unique state with a strong ranching tradition, abundant wildlife, a large energy industry, and astounding landscapes. My department's focus is on diseases exchanged between wildlife and livestock. Our strengths are disease diagnosis, investigation and research, teaching life sciences and infectious disease disciplines, and regulatory testing.

Our laboratory welcomes visitors, especially from the agricultural, veterinary and wildlife communities. Staff members will provide tours, provided they are arranged in advance. Laboratory tours of middle or high school students interested in science, particularly in careers in the College of Agriculture, especially welcome.
