Rue Jensen Scholarship

   This scholarship was created in 1996 to commemorate Dr. Rue Jensen's contribution to veterinary medicine and honor his work at the Wyoming State Vet Laboratory. It is awarded to promising undergraduates and incoming UW freshmen who have declared a major or option in pre-veterinary medicine. Preference is given to students who have the scholastic qualities and personal attributes to become effective, humane veterinarians.

   Jensen was one of America's preeminent veterinary pathologists.  He specialized in diseases of food animals, mainly sheep and cattle. He was responsible for identifying several common spontaneous diseases of food animals in the region, including polioencephalomalacia and thromboembolic meningoencephalitis (TEM) due to Haemophilus somnus. He wrote two standard textbooks, Diseases of Sheep and Diseases of Feedlot Cattle. His aggressive pursuit of experimental disease investigation, combined with creative use of slaughterhouse surveys, helped make the CSU College of Veterinary Medicine and Biological Sciences one of America's leading veterinary schools.

Noreen Ring scholarship

   Noreen Ring was a nurse with a lifelong love of animals.  This scholarship was established in her memory to benefit pre-veterinary students, medical microbiology majors, and graduate students in the Department of Veterinary Sciences.
