This upper division class is taught by Dr. Merl Raisbeck. It can also be taken at a graduate level, with additional expectations. Toxicology is the study of poisons, their mechanisms of action and their effects on various organisms including man and domestic animals. The class is designed to provide students in the life and environmental sciences with an understanding of the principles of toxicology as they apply to animal and human health, food safety and environmental studies. Dual listed with PATB 5140. Prerequisite: 9 hours of biological science (e.g., physiology), 4 hours chemistry, 3 hours biochemistry or consent of instructor. (Normally offered fall semester of even-numbered years).Dr. Raisbeck is a board-certified veterinary toxicologist. He has an appointment to the Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory.Audience: Students in any of the life science disciplines, but particularly Zoology, Microbiology, Animal Science, Food Science and Environment and Natural Resources. Pre-medical and pre-veterinary students may benefit from the class provided they have a strong interest in poisons |
