   Designed primarily for nursing and pre-pharmacy majors, this 4-credit course with laboratory is taught by Dr. Gerard P. Andrews.  It introduces students to microbiology, including the diversity of prokaryotic and eukaryotic microbes, their structural and physiological properties, and applied medical significance. It covers the basic principles of the immune system and emphasizes the communicable diseases of humans that are caused by microbial pathogens.  Dr. Andrews research area of specialty is in high-impact bacterial pathogens of people and animals.
