UW Commencement Speakers Announced

May 1, 2006 -- Olympian Sarah Konrad, Army Chief of Staff Gen. Peter J. Schoomaker and U.S. District Court Judge Clarence Brimmer are among the speakers scheduled for the University of Wyoming's 116th spring commencement activities that begin Friday, May 5.

Ceremonies for the individual colleges are scheduled Saturday, May 6; College of Law ceremonies will be held Saturday, May 13; and UW/Casper College Center ceremonies are scheduled for Thursday, May 18.

The schedule of events for individual college commencement ceremonies, along with key speakers, are:

Friday, May 5, 5 p.m. -- Multicultural graduation, Wyoming Union Yellowstone Ballroom, UW President Tom Buchanan.

The schedule for Saturday, May 6:

8:30 a.m., College of Health Sciences, Arena-Auditorium -- Sarah Konrad, who in 2001 received a Ph.D. in geology at UW, the first woman athlete to participate in both the biathlon and cross-country skiing at the Winter Olympics.

9 a.m., College of Business, Arts and Sciences auditorium -- Students Benjamin Hamilton of Hill City, S.D., B.S. accounting/B.A. criminal justice; Emerald Reid, Cheyenne, B.S. accounting, minor in finance; and Osea Nelson, Sheridan, M.B.A.

College of Education, War Memorial Fieldhouse -- Jason Kamras of Washington, D.C., the 2005 national teacher of the year.

11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Free picnic for graduates, families and friends, Arena-Auditorium concourse.

1:30 p.m., College of Agriculture, War Memorial Fieldhouse -- Students Corri Rekow of Lakeview, Ore., B.S. in animal and veterinary sciences, and Andrew Huber, Worland, B.S. in Family and Consumer Sciences.

College of Arts and Sciences, Arena-Auditorium -- Student Angela M. Granum of Casper, B.S. in international studies, one of the college's top 20 graduates and UW's outstanding graduating woman.

College of Engineering, Arts and Sciences auditorium -- Student Zachary L. Tyrrell of Kemmerer, B.S. in chemical and petroleum engineering.

Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing, Fine Arts Center concert hall -- Carol Tafoya, the school's 2006 distinguished alumna.

12:30-1:30 p.m., Outreach School graduation reception at the Beta House, open to all.

6 p.m., Air Force and Army ROTC Commissioning, Fine Arts Center concert hall -- Gen. Peter J. Schoomaker, the Army chief of staff and a 1969 UW graduate.

Saturday, May, 13, 10 a.m., College of Law ceremonies in the Fine Arts Center concert hall -- The Honorable Clarence A. Brimmer, United States District Court Judge, District of Wyoming.

Thursday, May 18, University of Wyoming/Casper College Center ceremonies at 7:30 p.m. in the Casper Events Center -- Milward Simpson, Wyoming Division of Cultural Resources administrator.
