NPR Official to Appear Twice at UW |

Oct. 3, 2005 -- Jeffrey Dvorkin, National Public Radio ombudsman, will present "American Journalism Pre- and Post-Hurricane Katrina" Thursday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m. in the Wyoming Union ballroom, as part of the UW Graduate School Distinguished Speaker Series.
Wyoming Public Radio will host "A Chat with Jeffrey Dvorkin, NPR Ombudsman" Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Centennial Complex, 2111 Willett Drive. Both presentations are free and open to the public.
As ombudsman, Dvorkin's duties include receiving, investigating, and responding to queries from the public regarding editorial standards in programming. He also writes an Internet column on www.npr.org, and presents his views on journalistic issues on-air on NPR. While some newspapers in the United States have had ombudsmen since the 1960s, it is rare for U.S. broadcast media to appoint ombudsmen.
