April 19, 2007 -- Acclaimed non-fiction author, Alexandra Fuller, will read, answer questions and sign books Wednesday, April 25, at 6 p.m. in the Albany County Public Library, 310 South 8th Street. The University of Wyoming M.F.A. in Creative Writing Program will host the event.

Fuller was born in England in 1969 and moved to Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, with her family when she was two. During that country's 1980 civil war, her father sided with the government to fight against guerilla troops. The family then moved from one poor farm to the next, first in Malawi and on to Zambia.

The author met her future husband, a whitewater raft guide in Zambia. He is the grandson of a Wyoming rancher. In 1994, they moved to Wyoming, where they now live with their two daughters and son.

Fuller wrote her first book, the memoir "Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight: An African Childhood," that tells the story of her childhood. It was a best seller, received the Book Sense Best Nonfiction Book of the Year, and was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year.

Her second nonfiction book, "Scribbling the Cat: Travels with an African Soldier," continues where "Dogs" left off. Her articles and book reviews have appeared in National Geographic, The New Yorker, The New York Times Book Review, Outside Magazine, Vogue and elsewhere.

The M.F.A. Program is UW's graduate creative writing program, bringing to the state a wealth of literary talent. The Visiting Writers Series brings many distinguished authors to Wyoming.
