UW Students Selected for Minority Graduate Program |

|
Aug. 10, 2005 -- Six University of Wyoming students are the first to take part in a program that encourages UW departments to recruit and retain qualified ethnic minority students.
The UW Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Graduate School this fall will sponsor the Multicultural Affairs Graduate Program (MAGP). The program, designed to recruit and retain qualified ethnic minority students, should increase participation of underrepresented ethnic minority students in graduate education, says Dolores Cardona, associate dean of students for multicultural affairs.
The program assists students pursuing graduate study. Participants are selected based on academic potential, financial need, academic accomplishments, potential to complete graduate study, involvement in minority activities and potential to contribute to the minority community upon graduation.
Receiving assistance for graduate studies for the 2005-06 academic year, listed by hometown and departments, are: BERTHOUD, COLO. -- Skott Vigil, history, with an emphasis on American Indian history. CHEYENNE -- Tameika Johnson, counselor education. EVANSVILLE -- Carlos Salas, modern languages/Spanish. LARAMIE -- Sierra Sterling Adare and Tasiwoo Pa`api, both adult learning and technology. LAS VEGAS, NEV. -- Lisa Akbari, psychology.
