Graduate Admissions for International Applicants

Step 1

Online Application - Please check with your department of interest for application deadlines and be sure they accept students for the semester you're wanting to apply.

Pay Application Fee - Please make sure you've submitted the application online before you pay the application fee.

Step 2

Send official transcripts (mark sheets) from all post-secondary institutions to:

UW Admissions
1000 E University Ave Dept 3435
Laramie, WY 82071

A bachelor's degree from an accredited or recognized school is required. A cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 on previous coursework is required for full admission (3.25 for interdisciplinary program applicants). All transcripts must be official. In order for them to be considered as such, they must be sent directly from the school(s) attended, in a sealed envelope, to the Admissions office at UW.

If your institution does not issue translated official transcripts, we recommend you utilize the translation service provided through University Language Services or have your transcripts evaluated through a NACES affiliate.

A 3-year bachelor's degree from India will be accepted only if the degree is earned in Division I or II from an institution accredited by the NAAC with a grade of A. All other 3-year degrees will be regarded as equivalent to three years of undergraduate study.

Applicants earning a 3-year bachelor's from a school participating in the Bologna process will be reviewed for possible eligibility of graduate admission to master's programs at UW on an individual basis. Direct entry into a doctoral program, immediately following the completion of the 3-year bachelor's, will not be permitted. Some applicants may be requested to undergo a credentials evaluation from WES. The fee for this service will be the applicant's responsibility.

Step 3

Send official GRE Scores to Admissions (school code is 4855; departmental codes are on the Educational Testing Service website).

A composite minimum score of 900 (master's), 1,000 (doctoral) or 1,100 (interdisciplinary) on the Verbal and Quantitative sections of the GRE is required for full admission. The GRE is usually not required for applicants with an earned master's degree from an accredited institution. In addition, some academic units may not require the GRE but may have a requirement in lieu of the GRE. Please check with your department of interest for details.

The GMAT (minimum total score of 500) is required for some business programs. Scores should be sent to your department of interest.

Step 4

Three letters of recommendation sent to your department of interest

Step 5

Graduate Assistantship Application (optional) sent to your department of interest

Step 6

Confidential Financial Statement and Family Information Form. The confidential financial statement is only required if you are NOT receiving a full graduate assistantship from UW. The family information form is required if you are bringing family members (spouse and/or children) with you when you first travel to UW.

Step 7

Send official TOEFL Scores to the Admissions office (school code is 4855; locate your departmental codes here).

A minimum score of 540 on the written exam, or 76 on the Internet-based test is required for full admission. We will also accept official IELTS scores. A minimum score of 6.0 is required for full admission.

The TOEFL is usually not required if you obtained a degree from a U.S. institution or an institution with English instruction within one year of becoming a graduate student at UW.

NOTE: If your TOEFL score does not reflect the minimum requirements, you have not taken the test, or you simply need supplemental English study before attending the University of Wyoming, you have the opportunity to attend our ELS Language Center to improve your English language skills and waive the TOEFL requirement. Visit www.uwyo.edu/els for details.

Step 8

International students currently studying in the U.S. must submit the International Student Advisor's Report to the Admissions office.

Step 9

Check with your department of interest to be sure you have submitted any additional materials they might need. If possible, please mail a copy of your passport to the Admissions office. This will assist in placing the correct information on your I-20.

Persons seeking admission, employment or access to programs of the University of Wyoming shall be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, veteran status, sexual orientation or political belief.

All credentials submitted become property of the University of Wyoming. Please be aware of all departmental application deadlines. The only deadline Admissions carries enforces no semester admissions after the mid-term of that semester. (NOTE: The Department of Psychology has a special application procedure. Please check with the department staff before applying.)

Your application will be processed by the Admissions staff the following morning. You will receive email notification of this.

A copy of your application will be forwarded to the department to which you are applying. You may use our website to check your application status. To do so, click HERE and use the same username and password you used for your application.

Once all the required documents are received, your department of interest will make a recommendation for admission or denial to the Admissions office.

Under special circumstances, students who do not meet the minimum requirements for full admission may be considered for provisional admission.
