DEVELOPMENT OF RAPID PCR-BASED TESTS TO DETECT FUNGICIDE RESISTANCE PROFILES
IN CERCOSPORA BETICOLA
(WYO-417-07)
New generation "environmentally friendly"
fungicides often select for fungicide resistance in plant pathogen
populations. Selection for resistance often leads to failure of fungicides
to suppress disease, ultimately resulting in greater crop loss, increased
fungicide use, and greater environmental impact. Rapid detection of
fungicide resistance genes in the pathogen population will enable monitoring
of pathogen populations for emergence of resistant isolates. Monitoring will
ensure that only the most effective chemistries will be utilized for disease
suppression, with the goal of improving the overall efficacy of IPM
programs.
