LINKING ECOLOGICAL AND ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY IN WYOMING SAGEBRUSH STEPPE

(WYO-401-06)

Prescribed burning has been introduced into rangelands across the Intermountain West in an effort to improve ecological and economic sustainability of these ecosystems, but efforts to understand spatial and temporal interactions between ecosystem response and economic outcomes of this practice have never been integrated. The objective of the proposed research is to identify, evaluate and communicate the environmental and economic consequences of sagebrush management strategies utilized by a sample of Wyoming cattle producers. This will be achieved by conducting a pilot study that develops methods for data collection and integrating disciplinary models.
