PLANT
GENETIC RESEARCH CONSERVATION AND UTILIZATION
(WYO-400-05)
In response to the
negative impacts of biotic and abiotic variables on crop production, a broad
genetic base is critical for U. S. agriculture in the development of new
cultivars or the improvement of existing ones. The most important output
will be the continued provision of quality germplasm of the species
maintained at this site and deliver to researchers worldwide. From the
utilization of this germplasm both basic and applied research will result.
This includes new cultivars, production of genetic maps, analyses of
diversity, new medicinal plants, ornamentals, etc. and restoration or re-patriotization
of germplasm to seed banks in countries from whence the original germplasm
came.
