WYOMING WILDLIFE/LIVESTOCK DISEASE RESEARCH PARTNERSHIP: CHRONIC WASTING DISEASE STUDIES

(WYO-00565)

Chronic wasting disease (CWD) of deer and elk is a prion disease related to important livestock diseases such as bovine spongiform encephalopathy and scrapie. In order to better understand the dynamics and CWD of deer we will capture and mark individual white-tailed deer fawns in western Wyoming with radiotelemetry equipment. These animals will be monitored throughout their life to determine if and when they contract CWD and will evaluate risk factors that might be associated with transmission of this disease.
