When You Disagree
 

Decisions regarding eligibility for assistance, choice of accommodation, treatment you receive by faculty and staff, etc. can be issues of disagreement or conflict – that’s a matter of fact. If you disagree with a decision that has been made regarding eligibility, service, treatment, etc., try to solve the problem at that level first. For example, if you disagree with the accommodations you and your coordinator are discussing, tell the coordinator that you disagree and why. Try to solve the issues with that person.

If solving a disagreement with the individual doesn’t work to your satisfaction, ask for help at the next level, e.g. that individual’s supervisor. If that doesn’t work, find out who the next person in charge might be and present your dilemma to them. Under most circumstances, this system works best to resolve issues.

If all your efforts to solve disagreements at the beginning or immediate levels are still not successful, there are two additional steps that may be taken, to solve disputes that involve civil rights or student appeals.

UniReg 5 is the university regulation pertaining to civil rights and harassment, and may be implemented by individuals alleging discrimination or harassment by the University.  For more information on University Regulation 5 and complaint procedures, contact the Employment Practices Office at 766-3459, or go to 402 Old Main.  Please refer to UniReg 5 (http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/legal/Uniregs/ur005rev1.htm) for a more in-depth description of the policy.

To appeal decisions or actions of University staff, administrative officials, faculty, academic units, or student organizations, contact the Dean of Students Office in 128 Knight Hall for information on the current process.  The phone number is 766-3296.  Other sources of information on appeal processes include academic advisors, or department heads and college deans (or their designee).
