As an instructor and/or advisor, you are almost certain to interact with students with disabilities. The following materials are designed to assist you as you work with each student who identifies themselves as having a disability and, perhaps, requests specific accommodations or modifications.


As you encounter students with disabilities in your class or in other situations within your responsibilities at UW, please feel free to call on UDSS staff as questions arise. We'll be glad to help!
 

 Students with Disabilities and the Laws

This section gives general information about laws that obligate the University of Wyoming to avoid discrimination on the basis of disability, as well as how faculty need to incorporate the expectations of those laws in their interactions with students.

This section provides specific ideas for modifying teaching strategies and approaches when a student with a disability is in your class.


Tips for Disability Awareness

This section includes information from A Desk Reference Guide for Faculty and Staff: College Students with Disabilities produced by Mississippi State University. It offers updated information on appropriate language to use when referring to an individual with a disability, as well as suggestions for effective interaction with people who have disabilities.
