Services for Individuals with Mobility Impairments

(Click on the highlighted text for more information on these services.)

Services and accommodations are always determined in an individual basis, and are based on the information provided UDSS by the student and from the documentation supporting the request for accommodations. Examples of the kinds of services offered individuals with mobility impairments include:

TESTING ACCOMMODATIONS: UDSS works with faculty and students to make sure students’ performance on exams is based on what they have learned, as opposed to how the disability impacts test-taking. Accommodations such as extended time, use of a computer by itself or with voice recognition or adapted keyboards may be helpful for students whose disability affects hand function and dexterity.

PRIORITY REGISTRATION: When students need to plan their schedules around their ability to move quickly from class to class and to be sure their classes are accessible to them, UDSS works with the Office of the Registrar to allow eligible students to register at the first available time for up-coming semesters.

CLASSROOM RELOCATION: In rare cases, when classes or programs can only be reached by stairs, UDSS will work with the classroom coordinator or reservations personnel to move the class or activity to a more accessible location.

CAMPUS ORIENTATION: For students with mobility, UDSS will provide information on the most accessible paths around campus and to your classes and programs. Maps depicting campus access features are also available from UDSS staff.

PARKING: The University of Wyoming requires every person using campus parking lots to have a permit. With the appropriate handicapped parking permit, students with mobility impairments have more flexible options for parking, including the use of any handicapped parking spot.

PARATRANSIT SERVICES: Complimentary paratransit services are available to supplement the regular campus shuttle and the express shuttle. See the TransPark web site for more information.

HOUSING: Residence hall rooms and university owned apartments are available with accessibility modifications for students with mobility impairments. Be sure to indicate your needs on your housing contract and application forms.
