Campus Access Committee

A university-wide committee works to improve access on campus for faculty, staff, students, and visitors with disabilities. Established in the late 1970’s, the Campus Access Committee has conducted self-evaluations of UW, as required by several laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The committee consists of individuals representing Disability Support Services, Employment Practices, Student Affairs, Housing and Residence Life, Physical Plant, Facilities Planning, Risk Management, the Ellbogen Center for Teaching and Learning, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Legal Counsel, Human Resources, the Wyoming INstitute for Disabilities, and TransPark. Students are represented by the current president of WyoACCESS.

Over the past few years, the Campus Access Committee has spearheaded the successful funding and completion of elevator projects in Arts & Sciences, Hoyt Hall, Biochemistry, School for Extended Studies, and Aven-Nelson, as well as restroom projects in Extended Studies, Law School, the Fieldhouse, Knight Hall, Wyoming Hall, Coe Library (basement), and the Crane-Hill cafeteria area. Up-coming projects include improvement of access to and within auditorium and laboratory venues.

The Committee continues to address access issues such as handicapped parking, snow removal, maintenance of elevators and lifts, use of products that affect people with chemical sensitivities, etc., and makes recommendations to the University administration or other appropriate departments. All of the UDSS coordinators are members of this committee and can relay your concerns through the appropriate channels. If you have suggestions for issues the Campus Access Committee should address, talk to your UDSS Coordinator.
