Montgomery Technology Computer Lab

University Disability Support Services, thanks to the support from the Montgomery Trust Fund, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Associated Students of the University of Wyoming and student fees, provides assistive technology (AT) through the Montgomery Technology Center (MTC). Located in Room 7 in the basement of Knight Hall, the MTC is the computer component of UDSS. The Center provides access to computers and the UW network by using various forms of AT.  AT can assist students in a variety of ways.

The resources available in the MTC serve to accomplish its goals of access, education, training, and support for UW students, faculty, and staff who have an interest in AT for persons with disabilities.  Some AT can also be found in computer labs around the UW campus.

Getting Started in the MTC

The University Disabilities Support Services (UDSS) Lab exists to serve the University of Wyoming community. We offer training on adaptive computer equipment, connection to the Internet and to the University of Wyoming network, and access to the software available in all other campus labs. Whether you need assistance in using computer programs, or just a quiet study atmosphere the UDSS Lab is here to serve you.
During the year, we host demonstrations and informational presentations. If necessary, we can relocate adaptive equipment to other student labs and classrooms.
The UDSS Lab is a great place to study, read e-mail, or surf the Web. It is even a recognized safe environment for persons with MCS.
If you would like to find out more about the UDSS Lab, ask for the Montgomery Technology Center (MTC) Fact Sheet.

A few rules and regulations

For safety purposes, make sure that the lab is orderly at all times. Do not leave chairs pushed away from the table. Put all backpacks underneath the lab tables. Please do not disturb other people in the lab. They may be taking a test or studying. If there are test takers in the lab, use headphones for screen readers and music.

Logging on

The computer will take a few minutes to boot up after you have turned it on. When the "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" window pops up, then you are ready to log on. If you have a visual impairment, the best way to find out if the computer is ready for you to log on, is to wait for a few minutes and then type the first few letters of your user name. If the computer beeps at you a few times, then you are ready to log on.
To log on, press the control key, alt key, and delete key all at the same time. This is often abbreviated as "Ctrl-Alt-Delete."
Next, a window will pop up and request your user name and password. If you don't have a user name and password, then you need to get one. To get a new account, you will have to go to room 51 in the Ivinson building to get an account set up.

Having problems logging in?

There are several problems that can occur when you try to log in. Be sure that the caps-lock key is not pressed, and that you are typing correctly. Also be sure that the domain is set to UWYO.
If you have forgotten your password, then you will need to go to the room 51 in the Ivinson building to have it reset.
If you are sure that your password is correct, and you still cannot log in, then your account may be locked. Go to the Coe computer lab down the hall from the UDSS Lab and ask a lab assistant to reset your account.

When you are ready to leave

Once you are finished with the computer, click on the Start button and select "Log Off" The computer will begin the log off process. At this point, the computer will return to the log on screen.
Before you leave the lab, make sure that all the chairs are pushed under the tables. If you are working alone, make sure that all lights are out and that the door is locked when you leave.
