CHAP Minutes for October 3, 2007
1. Senior Housing Projects
a. 3 committees are forming to address nutritional health, physical exercise, and social interaction projects. Contact Jessica jlatoure@uwyo.edu if you are interested in helping on these committees. Lori Amick encouraged students to get involved, that the time commitment need not be overwhelming.
b. Physical exercise committee - developing a walking program for seniors, steps folders.
c. Social Interaction Committee - Halloween decorations need to be put up. Jessica will check with Dolly on a date to do this and let us know.
d. Nutrition Committee – grocery delivery needs volunteers. The seniors really look forward to the visits they get from student deliverers.
2. Face Aids
a. Jordan Kraft provided information on the Face Aids student campaign whose mission it is to educate students about the AIDS pandemic, and to garner support. Jordan distributed brochures and invited those interested to attend Face Aids meetings on Wednesdays, Ross Hall 408 at 1pm. She has pins available for $5 each if anyone would like to purchase one.
3. AED happenings – Chase Stonecipher updated us on AED projects
a. Blood Drive –October 15, 1-4pm, Union Ballroom. Need donors and volunteers
b. Discovery Days – an opportunity to connect with all of the resources available to students here at UW. This will take place November 17, from 8:30am– 1pm in Wyoming Union. Chase invited CHAP to join with AED and SHAC and host a table with information.
c. Mentoring – Chase extended an invitation to freshman to take advantage of the mentoring available from AED members.
4. Health Professions Dinner
a. will be held November 4th, 5:30pm, Library Restaurant. Chase Stonecipher has arranged for paramedic, Matt Stroot, an ER doctor, Dr. Regina Shedd, and pulmonologist, Dr. Michael Shedd, to come and speak to us. Bring a friend, dinner is on us. I’ll be sending out a sign-up sheet in the next couple weeks.
5. Occupational Therapy Shadowing - we’ve had 5 students sign up. Let me know if you are interested in this.
6. Research – Kelly Hubbell and Janelle Krueger talked about the research they hope to do with CHAP. They invited students to participate. It would involve completing a survey and being videotaped at meetings.
7. Attendance – 27 students, faculty and staff attended the meeting.
Next meeting is Wednesday October 18th, noon – 1pm, Health Sciences, room 449
