CONCERNS AND QUESTIONS REGARDING THE TRANSIT & PARKING SYSTEM

(Click on the question to see the answer)

 1.   How will the payroll deduction process be handled for those who want to purchase the permit for less than 12 months in a given year?   Please confirm that a payroll deduction for parking permits will be allowed to take place at a rate of $11/month over the full 12-month period if desired, and not in a shorter period of time.

 2.  Explain the process for employees using pre-tax dollars to pay for the parking permit.  Will there be a consideration for employees leaving the university before the permit expires?

 3.  What is the policy if an employee retires from (or for any reason leaves) the university before the permit-year ends?  Also, what will be the policy for an employee who begins a job at the university after the beginning of the “permit year”?

4.   For someone paying on the monthly basis, when will the $11 be deducted from his or her check?  Jul 31 for Aug payment or Aug 31 for Aug payment?

5.   Will it be excused time away from the employee’s job, if shuttle buses run or arrive late for their scheduled stops?  What will happen if shuttle use is so heavy that shuttles fill up with riders before all those who are waiting to ride can be transported?  If they have to wait for the next shuttle, they could be late getting to work.

6.    How many shuttles in total will be available for employee use?

7.     Will more parking space be made available for service personnel who need to do work in a particular building, so they can be closer in proximity to their work location, in order to carry tools, materials, supplies, equipment, and other heavy and bulky items, and to efficiently facilitate their work process?

8.  What options are there on campus for short-term/long-term parking?

9.   What is the procedure for custodial, and other employees, who must stop   briefly at a building to drop off keys at the end of their shift, when they don’t have a permit to park in that area?

10.   Please clarify the exact hours of the day that the shuttle system will be operation.

11   What is the justification for adhering to the proposed parking/transportation policy during the summer months, when parking is abundant and the campus has a large number of short-term visitors?

12.  Will there still be “courtesy” parking permits issued, for vendors, salesmen, dignitaries, campus visitors, conference attendees, potential students and their parents, etc?

13.  There is much concern among employees about sufficient lighting and security in the remote parking lots and on the routes to and from those parking areas.  What accommodations will be made concerning the safety of those who use the remote lots after dark? Please elaborate on what will be done to address these concerns.

14.   There is no information on accommodation for staff reporting to work at 3-4-5a.m. or leaving work after 7:00p.m. in the evening.  We have personnel working past 11:00 p.m. in the evening.  Will campus police be responsible for assisting this group of employees?  How about Sat and Sun staff…when will the shuttle run?

15.  During a major snow storm will the parking lots be cleared or will cars be required to stay out of the lots until cleared:  Where will essential personnel be allowed to park?  Will the number of shuttle buses be increased?  Has a priority been established as to what will be cleared first, (streets, bus stops, docks, sidewalks, etc)?

16.   What about lunch hours?  Are we going to get a longer lunch break?  I live out in West Laramie and have to go home everyday to let my dogs out.  I know there are a lot of people that live out in West Laramie that go home for lunch also because we cannot afford to go out to lunch or we have animals to take care of.  That is my concern.

17. When buying my parking permit, what does pre-tax mean?

18. Who is eligible for the Pre-tax option?

19.  How do I enroll in the Pre-tax plan?

20. Am I eligible for the Pre-tax option if I pay by check?

21.  How does the new parking plan effect the benefits Board Retirees receive?

22.   When does Transit & Parking enforce parking?
