Transit & Parking Services 2009-2010
Q. I heard permit prices are going up next year, what can I expect and why are they more expensive?
A. Several changes are taking place for next year:
Faculty/Staff Permits - $132.00 increased to $180.00
Student Permits - $90.00 increased to $120.00
Contractor/Vendor Permits - $132.00 increased to $264.00
UW Service Vehicles – No Charge increased to $180.00
Day Lot & Parking Meters - $.50/hr increased to $1.00/hr
Day Permits - $4.00/day increased to $5.00/day and
department bulk rate no longer availableStudent permit fees have not been increased since 2002 and Faculty/Staff permits have not been increased since 2003. Unfortunately, historical and current parking permit prices are insufficient to sustain the existing system and do not generate revenues to meet future parking and transportation needs. In order to maintain the necessary safety and improvements to the current parking and transit system, fees had to be adjusted accordingly.
Q. When will parking permits be available?
A. Permits will go on sale on the following dates:
“R” Resident Student Parking Permits for returning residents: 6/1/09
“R” Resident Student Parking Permits for all residents: 7/1/09
“C” Commuter Student Parking Permits: 7/1/09
“A” Permits for Faculty and Staff: 7/20/09
All other permits: 7/1/09
Q. I read about a new transit fee for students and bus passes for Faculty and Staff, can you give me more details?
A. All UW students will have a $20.00/semester mandatory student fee assessed for transportation in 2009-2010. This fee will be used to fund the increasing costs of operating and maintaining the transit system at the University of Wyoming. This one-time student fee will be re-evaluated next year to assess future needs. Faculty and Staff will need to purchase bus passes to take advantage of the transit system, which will cost $20.00/semester or $40.00/annually. Visitors who frequently come to campus will be able to obtain bus passes at a charge of $.50/ride, a $1.00 for a round-trip pass including transfers to other routes.
Q. I am a current Faculty/Staff member, when do I need to get a bus pass and how do I get it?
A. Bus passes will not be required until 8/31/09. All faculty and staff will receive a mailing with parking and transit information in July with instructions on how to obtain the bus pass and parking permits. Bus passes are anticipated to be available by 7/20/09.
Q. I see that there will no longer be a discount for paying a citation within 48 hours, why?
A. The number one goal with parking enforcement is compliance with rules and regulations. Our data shows that the trial run of discounting citations did not increase compliance; therefore we are eliminating the discount.
Q. I’ve heard about changes to the Paratransit disability shuttle as well, what’s happening there?
A. Passengers with disabilities that are unable to utilize the Fixed-Route system because of a disability may use the Paratransit disability shuttle. The Paratransit shuttle is very beneficial to the University and the Laramie Community, but is an expensive service to operate and maintain. In order to sustain our current level of service, fees must be assessed to all patrons of the Paratransit service. Students - Rides to and from university/home will be covered by the student fee and buss passes will be available to students at $40/month for unlimited off-campus rides. Single ride and coupon books will also be available for off-campus rides.
Faculty and staff - Passes will be available at $20/semester, $40/annually to provide rides to and from university/home. An additional pass is available at $40/month for patrons desiring unlimited off-campus rides. An option to pre-pay for rides using coupon books or punch cards will be available as well. Passes and/or payment will be required starting 8/31. Passes are anticipated to go on sale 7/20/09.
The Paratransit disability service is open to the Laramie community as long as applications are approved by the TransPark office Please contact the paratransit line, 766-6686, for more information and application.
