Verification

Applications for student financial aid may be selected for a review process called "verification." Typically the Federal government selects approximately 30 percent of all aid applicants for this review. Students selected should not be alarmed by their selection for verification. For students selected, Federal financial aid regulations require that the Office of Student Financial Aid (SFA) compare the information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) against signed copies of the most recent year’s Federal tax forms and information contained on the UW Verification Worksheet (available for printing on-line at http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/sfa/forms.htm). Differences between the information on the FAFSA and the documentation provided will be corrected and may change a particular student’s eligibility for assistance.

Students selected for verification must complete the verification process by providing the required documentation before their financial aid can be processed and finalized.

 Selected students should:

  1. Collect their (and their spouse’s or parents’) financial documents (signed Federal Income Tax forms, W-2’s, etc.).
  2. Talk to a counselor in the SFA if they have questions about completing the worksheet.
  3. Complete, sign and submit the worksheet along with the required documentation to the SFA.

The worksheet and documents will be reviewed by the SFA. If questions arise, the student will be contacted for clarification.
