Expected Family Contribution


Your expected family contribution is the amount of money that the U.S. Department of Education estimates your family will be able to contribute to your education over the next school year. It is derived by reviewing the financial data you and your family provide. If you are a single, independent student, your family contribution will come solely from your own resources (earnings, savings). Otherwise, your EFC will be calculated on your own resources combined with those of your family. The EFC is taken into consideration when you apply for any need-based financial aid and is calculated by the Federal Student Aid Programs processor when you submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
