SEO is composed of numerous projects, many of them funded by federal grants, and all working to provide services that promote access to higher education in Wyoming. SEO projects work with individuals who are economically disadvantaged, first generation college students, ethnic minorities, and disabled to help them access educational opportunities and to achieve academic success.

The goals of SEO are to

• identify and assist disadvantaged students to plan and prepare for entry into college

• provide disadvantaged students with instruction in basic skills, career development, and personal development

• increase the retention and graduation rates of these students
  facilitate the placement of disadvantaged students in both employment and graduate/professional degree programs

• provide these students with current, accurate, and comprehensive information on educational and career opportunities in the state of Wyoming

• promote ethnic and cultural awareness and increase the public consciousness of the special needs and potential of ethnic minority, first generation, disabled, and economically disadvantaged students
