Location

Riverton is located where the Big Wind and Little Wind River converge, making it a natural crossroads. Founded in the 1906 land rush to settle acreage withdrawn by treaty from the Wind River Indian Reservation, Riverton is totally within the reservation lands. Going clockwise starting in the west, the surrounding area includes the Wind River Range of the Rocky Mountains, the Owl Creek Range, the Wind River and the Gas Hills, and the Little Wind River and the South Pass over the Wind Rivers.

Medical Facilities

Riverton Memorial Hospital is a full service, primary/acute care hospital with 70-beds. RMH serves as a teaching facility for Central Wyoming College, Casper College, Laramie College, and the University of Wyoming.

Climate

Due to its location on the eastern edge of the Rockies' precipitation shadow with more mountains to the north, Riverton's weather is among the mildest in Wyoming. January's average temperatures range from 18° to 30°F while in July the range goes from 52° to 89°F. Average sunshine days are an amazing 347 days per year.
