Application Process

Individual WWAMI sites offer the R/UOP experience to students at varying times. Regardless of site differences, all the following tasks need to be completed.   Check deadlines with your R/UOP coordinator.

  1. Complete the R/UOP Application: http://www.fammed.washington.edu/predoctoral/ruop/application.htm
  2. Someone from the Wyoming AHEC office will make the initial contact with the preceptor in your requested host community. You will then get information on the best ways and times for you to get in touch with your assigned preceptor.
  3. Based on the information provided by Wyoming AHEC, call or e-mail your preceptor, introduce yourself and discuss beginning and ending dates for your R/UOP experience (based on what is most convenient for your preceptor).
  4. Wyoming AHEC will facilitate housing arrangements but you need to confirm the dates and details of the arrangement. Send an email to dgable@uwyo.edu for help.

  5. Participate in a facilitated Orientation Session.

Each WWAMI site conducts separate (but similar) R/UOP Orientation Sessions sometime in April of each year.  A time convenient for all students will be scheduled.  At that time you will receive a R/UOP Student Syllabus.

    Orientation Packet

Each Orientation Packet contains additional forms and information that need to be completed before you arrive in your host community:
    1. Learning Plan Form
    2. Form for defining other opportunities with the community
    3. IMPORTANT: Carefully review insurance coverage, safety procedures, and your liability.
    4. Evaluation forms

  6. A week or so before showing up in your host community:
    1. Call you preceptor and let her/him know about what time you will be arriving.
    2. Confirm what time you should be at the office on the first morning.
    3. Use this phone call to discuss some of your learning plan and put a copy of your learning plan in the mail to your preceptor--or better yet, FAX it to his/her office.
    4. Call and confirm housing arrangements.

Evaluation of R/UOP Experience

mountain icon IS YOUR R/UOP DONE AT THE END OF YOUR FOUR WEEKS? NO!!! You still need to complete forms and evaluations!

  1. Evaluation forms for both you and your preceptor are included in your Orientation Packet. These need to be completed and returned to the Seattle address included in your packet.
  2. Provide feedback to a R/UOP coordinator in Seattle.
    1. Following your R/UOP experience, students are asked to attend a Debriefing Meeting held at the Seattle campus.
    2. Students receive notice of scheduled meetings after courses begin in the Fall.
    3. Debriefing meetings allow you to share highlights of your experience with your colleagues. They also provide a forum for  suggestions on program improvement.  And this time is great for sharing pictures of your adventures!

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE R/UOP PROGRAM.
