Hit and run collisions, consisting of a parked vehicle damaged by careless drivers are a fairly common occurrence. In these cases, the owner of the damaged vehicle rarely has evidence to review when seeking the offending driver. For example, in the City of Denver, statistics show that hit and run collisions account for approximately thirty percent of all accidents; however, follow-on investigations are only conducted in fifty percent of hit and run accidents.
Repair costs for typical hit and run collisions can run several thousand dollars – a loss to the owner either as direct repair costs or increased insurance premiums resulting from a claim where the other driver cannot be held responsible. Fortunately, researchers at the University of Wyoming have developed an innovative vehicle imaging system, which allows a vehicle owner to review a series of photographs taken immediately after an accident, and helps provide identification of the offending vehicle and driver.
If you would like to learn more about this system and how your company may apply it in commercial situations, please contact the Director of the University of Wyoming Research Product Center, Davona Douglass. We would be please to share further details.
