The University apartments After School Fun Program (ASFP) is dedicated to giving
children a healthy, safe, environment in which they can play, learn, and grow.
This FREE program services school-age children whose parents are
enrolled University of Wyoming students living
in the
University Apartments. Parents must pre-register their child before acceptance
into the program. Registration for limited seats in this program occurs just
before the beginning of each fall semester, on a date announced in the FLASH
newsletter. Drop-ins
are not possible.
This program provides children with the opportunity to explore individually
as well as cooperate in groups. Various concepts are introduced all based on the
children's interest, personal development, age, and cultural background.
The ASFP operated from 3:15 to 6:00 PM Monday through Friday. The programs
follow the University of Wyoming calendar. Therefore, any days that the
University of Wyoming is not in operation, the ASFP will be closed. There may be
half-day or full-day programs during the year. These days will be posted and a
newsletter will be sent home with more information. The program follows a daily
and weekly routine, which allows the children to feel secure in knowing how
their day will go. The children are encouraged to try different activities, but
can choose whether or not to participate. By having daily activities and a
consistent routine, the children are given the opportunity to succeed in what
they do.
Daily snacks, which are both healthy and nutritious, will be served during
program hours.
Enrollment into the After School Fun Program is limited. Only 25 children are enrolled per year. Parents are strongly encouraged to register in advance. A waiting list is available. for this reason, if a child has extensive absences from the program he/she will be dropped and a child from the waiting list may be added.
The After School Fun Program is located at the Hitchcock House (804 Fremont),
less than a block from the University of Wyoming Campus. The facility provides
the program with a large playground, complete with a sizeable sizeable set, a
playground structure, and a small sandbox. Inside the building, the program has
access to a kitchen, large activity room, and arts and craft room. When not used
by the ASFP, the Hitchcock House is home to the University of Wyoming Child
Development Center preschool program.
All staff members have experience working with children and have taken
coursed in areas such as Child Development, Education, and Psychology. All staff
are Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Certified. Staff also participate in ongoing
education workshops and training.
