UW COMMENCEMENT SPEAKERS AND SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

May 13, 2003 -- State Superintendent of Public Instruction Trent Blankenship is among speakers scheduled for University of Wyoming commencement activities Saturday, May 17. Ceremonies at individual colleges will begin at 8:30 a.m. at various campus locations.

To unite all UW students and their families in one special commencement-day event, a free picnic is scheduled from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Arena-Auditorium concourse.

The schedule of events for individual college commencement ceremonies, along with key speakers, are:

8:30-11 a.m.

College of Health Sciences, Arena-Auditorium -- Dean Robert O. Kelley.

College of Business, Arts and Sciences auditorium -- Graduating students Shawn Cook, Cheyenne, B.S. in business administration with concurrent major in economics; James J. Pauley, Estes Park, Colo., M.S. in accounting; and Sara Stahley, Casper, B.S. in business administration.

9-11 a.m.

College of Education, War Memorial Fieldhouse -- Trent Blankenship, state superintendent of public instruction.

College of Law, Fine Arts Center concert hall -- Helen Norton, University of Maryland professor and the 2001 E. George Rudolph distinguished visiting chair at UW.

11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Free picnic, Arena-Auditorium concourse.

1:30-3:30 p.m.

College of Agriculture, War Memorial Fieldhouse -- Graduating students Rebecca L. Curran of Cheyenne, animal science/veterinary sciences; and Ryan Rapp of Lusk, agroecology.

College of Arts and Sciences, Arena-Auditorium -- Thomas Buchanan, UW vice president for academic affairs; and Dean Oliver Walter.

College of Engineering, Arts and Sciences auditorium -- Brian Dutton of Laramie, first student to be named both the Wyoming Engineering Society student engineer of the year plus the Joint Engineering Council outstanding senior.

School of Nursing, Fine Arts Center concert hall -- Retiring Dean Marcia Dale.

6 p.m.

ROTC commissioning ceremony, Fine Arts Center concert hall -- Maj. Gen. Chuck Wing, retired, the adjutant general, Wyoming National Guard.
