Milward Simpson to Give Keynote Talk at UW/CC Commencement Thursday |

May 15, 2006 -- Milward Simpson, state Division of Cultural Resources administrator and a leading supporter of arts and culture in Wyoming, will offer the keynote talk at the University of Wyoming/Casper College (UW/CC) Center's commencement ceremony Thursday, May 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Casper Events Center.
Simpson is the son of former UW administrator and professor emeritus Pete Simpson and grandson of former governor and U.S. Sen. Milward Lee Simpson. His prior experience includes service with the Wyoming Arts Council, Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund, the Western States Arts Federation and Wyoming's Coinage Advisory Committee. Simpson worked as a professional percussionist, vocalist, pianist, arranger, theater director, actor, sound designer and educator.
The 2006 ceremonies will involve 67 graduating students who have completed coursework through the UW/CC Center, the University of Wyoming, and/or other University Outreach programs. The oldest graduate this year is 54 and the youngest is 21.
Students participating in the commencement exercises represent majors in biology, communication, criminal justice, psychology, social science, secondary education, technical education, elementary education, social studies education, business administration and social work. The largest group of graduates will be in the field of elementary education, followed by social work and social science.
Along with the presentation of degrees, recipients of various faculty, staff and student awards will be honored at the ceremonies. Education graduate Kayla St. John will deliver the student address and Dagmara Motriuk-Smith, assistant lecturer of biology at the UW/CC Center, will offer the faculty reflections. The evening's soloist will be Ken Gilchrist.
