UW Student Health Service Reaccredited |

June 30, 2004 -- The University of Wyoming Student Health Service (SHS) has achieved reaccreditation for meeting nationally-recognized standards for quality care.
The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) reaccredited UW following an extensive, on-site, peer-based survey of its facility and services in March, says Dr. Joanne E. Steane, SHS director. She says more than 1,300 ambulatory health care organizations across the are accredited by the AAAHC.
"Accreditation underscores our long-standing commitment to providing the highest possible levels of quality care to the students of UW," Steane says. "We are pleased and proud to have our efforts recognized with this accreditation."
Not all ambulatory health care organizations seek accreditation; not all undergoing the on-site survey are granted accreditation. Among the types of health care organizations that can seek AAAHC accreditation are ambulatory and office based surgery centers; single and multi-specialty group practices; college and university health services; dental group practices; community and occupational health centers; and managed care organizations.
The UW Student Health Service, established in 1928, provides comprehensive primary care services to university students, with programs to help foster a healthy campus community. Evaluation of illness and injury, treatment of chronic medical problems, and preventive health services are available. Students can access a full service pharmacy, as well as laboratory and x-ray services. Specialty clinics include orthopedics, psychiatry, psychology and nutrition.
AAAHC is a private, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization. It receives guidance and financial support from many professional organizations, including the American Academy of Family Physicians, American College Health Association, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and National Association of Community Health Centers.
