UW Student Presents Research at National Conference

Jan. 31, 2007 -- University of Wyoming psychology junior Tonya Smith of Laramie was selected to present a poster of her research during the recent Society for Personality and Social Psychology conference held in Memphis, Tenn.

Smith’s research was funded through the McNair Scholars Program and directed by Assistant Professor Michael Johns from UW’s Department of Psychology. The title of her project is "Internal Motivation to Avoid Prejudice and Automatic Egalitarian Goal Activation."

The McNair Scholars Program is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education to encourage talented undergraduates from under-represented groups to pursue a graduate degree and achieve their Ph.D.
