Letter from the Chair
Greetings from Laramie! After seven years of service as chair of
the Psychology Department, Narina Nunez has stepped down and is enjoying
being a regular faculty member again. I will be doing my best to follow in
her footsteps. Although I’ve been a faculty member here for five years, I
realize that most of you do not know me. I look forward to meeting many of
you over the next few years. Here’s a little bit about me.
I’m originally from a small town in Michigan and had my first experience
with the school colors of Brown and Gold as an undergrad at Western Michigan
University. I went to graduate school at the State University of New York at
Stony Brook, completed a postdoc at the University of Michigan Medical
Center, and was a faculty member for five years at Binghamton University in
upstate New York before moving to Laramie in 2002. I am a clinical
psychologist and my research is on interpersonal and behavioral processes in
mood variation and depression.
At the beginning of every semester, I always introduce myself to new classes
as Dr. Pepper, just like the soft drink. It’s fun to have a name that’s a
registered trade mark, as at least people are likely to remember it. Well,
last week I got a call from the Fox Business News Channel. Two delivery
workers, one from Pepsi and one from Coke, got into a fist fight in a
Walmart parking lot. They thought it would be fun to consult with Dr. Pepper
on this incident! You can check out the interview on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pdk1ZluxR8.
