Undergraduate Philosophy Courses

The department presents these anticipated course offerings for use in planning students' course schedules. The projected course offerings may change with budget and staffing.

            PHIL 1000.  Introduction to Philosophy will be offered every fall and every spring, though rarely    in the summer.

            PHIL 1200.  Intellectual Community in Philosophy will be offered every fall.

            PHIL 2100.  Greek Mind will be offered every spring.

            PHIL 2300.  Ethics in Practice will be offered once a year.

            PHIL 2310.  Philosophy of Religion will be offered infrequently.

            PHIL 2330.  Environmental Ethics will be offered spring semester of even years (2008, 10, etc.).

            PHIL 2345.  Natural Resource Ethics will be offered spring semester of odd years (2009, 11, etc.)

            PHIL 2420.  Critical Thinking will be offered every fall (it might be available in the spring and summer through the Outreach College).

            PHIL 3000.  Special Topics will be offered dependent on faculty/topic/student interest.  Many sections of this course are typically offered every

summer. 

            PHIL 3100.  History of Modern Philosophy will be offered every fall.

            PHIL 3140.  Philosophy of Science will be offered spring semester of odd years (2009, 11, etc.)

            PHIL 3150.  Philosophy of Social Science will not be offered.

            PHIL 3200.  Analytical Political Philosophy will not be offered in the near future.

            PHIL 3220.  Existentialism and Phenomenology will be offered every summer.

            PHIL 3300.  Ethical Theory will be offered spring semester of odd years (2009, 11, etc.).

            PHIL 3320.  Eastern Thought will be offered on an infrequent basis in summers.

            PHIL 3340.  Philosophy in Literature will not be offered through the Philosophy department.

            PHIL 3350.  History of Moral Philosophy will be offered spring semesters of even years (2008,       10, etc.).

            PHIL 3420.  Symbolic Logic will be offered every spring.

            PHIL 3440.  Philosophy of Mind will be offered spring semesters of even years (2008,10, etc.)

            PHIL 3500.  History of Science will be offered spring semester of even years (2009, 11, etc.)

            PHIL 3510.  Introduction to Epistemology will be offered fall semester of even years           (2008,10,etc.)

            PHIL 3560.  Introduction to Metaphysics will be offered fall semester of odd years (2008,10, etc.)

            PHIL 4000. Philosophical Issues.  This is a special topics course number and will be offered based on faculty/topic/student interest.

            PHIL 4100.  Philosophy and the 20th Century.

            PHIL 4140.  Topics in Philosophy of Science will be offered every fall.

            PHIL 4200.  Topics in Social and Political Philosophy.

            PHIL 4340.  Issues in Environmental Ethics will be offered spring semester of even years    (2008,10, etc.).

            PHIL 4420.  Advanced Logic will be offered spring semester of even years (2008,10,etc.).

            PHIL 4510.  Theory of Knowledge will be offered spring semester of odd years (2009,11,etc.)

            PHIL 4560.  Metaphysics will be offered spring semester of even years (2008,10, etc.).

Although the department will try its best to provide these courses on this schedule, these offerings are contingent on budget and staffing.  Due to sabbaticals, retirements and resignations, and curricular revisions, these plans might change.

The department is currently in the process of dual listing all of its graduate seminars so that they will have a 4000-level number and be available to undergraduates at this level.  The department plans on offering three dual listed seminars in the fall, and three in the spring.
