Education:
Cardona earned a doctoral degree in Educational Administration, Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Nebraska Lincoln (1982); a master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska Lincoln (1977); a bachelor’s degree in Education from Chadron State College (1972); and an Associate of Arts degree in Education from Nebraska Western College (1970). Cardona taught in the public schools and at UNL. She began work with UW in 1983 as TRIO programs coordinator and is now currently serving as an associate dean of students.

Affiliations: National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, Colorado Wyoming Association of Women in Education, Laramie Spanish Choir, Albany County Scholarship Selection Committee, Wyoming State Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, Wyoming Latino/Latina Coalition, Martin Luther King, Jr.-Days of Dialogue Planning Committee, Minority Student Leadership Initiative, UW Internationalization Board, and UW LeaRN (Learning Resource Network) Advisory Board, among many other committee assignments over the years.

Accomplishments:
Dr. Cardona’s leadership and collegial partnership work have resulted in the establishment of the Hearst Scholars Award, the McNair Scholars Program, UW Minority Scholarship, Multicultural Pride Scholarship, Summer Research Apprentice Program, U-DOC Program, Student Code of Conduct, Greek Relationship Statement, development of the Rainbow Resource Center, increased staffing and funding for OMA, the conceptual model and goals and objectives for OMA, garnering external funding for OMA, and greater awareness of diversity at UW. She helped to hold the Minority & Women’s Advisory Committee together before it transformed into the President’s Advisory Committee on Minority & Women’s Affairs. She has worked with and mentored a significant number of UW alumni over the years and has raised the visibility and reputation of OMA on campus and in the state as part of her advocacy for diversity.
