The climbing wall is free for all current members of Half Acre. To learn about membership to Half Acre, please see the membership information on the Campus Recreation main page. To climb at the wall, you must successfully complete either a skills check (anytime the wall is open) or an introductory climbing wall clinic annually.
Skills checks are specifically for those people who have prior climbing experience.
You need to be able to demonstrate how to properly do the following:
If you feel you can demonstrate these things proficiently, ask for a “skills check” when the wall is open. If you do not have your own equipment, we can provide it for you.
Introductory climbing wall clinics are for those people who have little
or no climbing experience and who would like to learn how to climb.
These great clinics are taught by our knowledgeable staff and usually
last about one-and-a-half hours.
During the fall and spring
semesters, register in advance at the Campus Recreation office in the west lobby
(space is limited in each clinic). This is a free clinic. Clinics meet
at the climbing wall at 7 p.m. on the following dates:
Dependents must successfully complete the skills check or climbing wall clinic to climb. Dependents under the age of 18 must be supervised at all times by a parent or legal guardian. Dependents have limited access to the facility; please see the open recreation pages for more information.
We have all of this equipment available for your use at the climbing wall for no additional cost. Please see the rental equipment page for outdoor rental (we do not rent chalk bags or harnesses for outdoor rental). Please see the wall monitor for more information.
