Program

OVERVIEW

NOTE: this page is under revision Fall 2008; changes may be forthcoming

The Masters program offers a specialty in rural health nursing with the following options: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Nurse Educator (EDUC - online option), and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Certificate programs are available for RNs (registered nurses) who have master's in nursing degrees who wish to become either FNP's (CER-FMNP) or Nurse Educators (CER-NSED) or PMHNP's (CER-PMHN).  Programs of study are also available for associate-degree or diploma nurses with non-nursing baccalaureates.  Applicants are held to the graduate admission criteria.

Nurses with a baccalaureate degree may enroll in selected courses as non-degree-seeking students. (Go go the Advising/Registration page for non-degree-seeking graduate students for procedure and needed forms:  http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/nursing/ms/current/ms-registration_enrichment.asp). Up to 12 credit hours taken as a non-degree-seeking graduate student may be applied to the master's degree, if the student subsequently applies and is admitted to the graduate program.

Nurses with an associate degree or diploma in nursing and a baccalaureate degree in an area other than nursing can enter the Master's Program after the completion of the prerequisite courses:  NURS 3010:  Introduction to Higher Education in Nursing; NURS 3020:  Cultural Diversity in Family Health Care; and NURS 4240: Community Health or NURS 5060: Epidemiology.
