The
fully accredited PMHNP Certificate program option provides the Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) who
already has a master's degree in nursing the opportunity to become a
psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. To be eligible for admission
to the Post-master’s track a prospective students must:
Have a master’s degree in nursing
Have taken graduate level courses in
Advanced health assessment
Advanced pharmacology
Advanced pathophysiology
The emphasis of this program option is on courses that prepare the nurse for advanced practice with individuals and families throughout the lifespan. Clinical practice is a major component of the program. After completion of those courses specified for PMHNP's, the student is eligible to take the national certifying examinations.
