Malpractice Insurance Policy - for MS FNP/PMHNP/ECD

submit copy of insurance policy certificate

  • Nursing students must carry their own malpractice insurance to level of RN licensure/additional certification throughout the entire program. (See below for some insurance agency options. Some policies require nurse practitioner students to also be covered as a student in the nurse practitioner program. Make sure you comparison shop.)
  • The School of Nursing must always have a copy of your most current policy. Updated verification must be submitted prior to expiration of policy on record with our office.
  • To verify insurance, submit copy of certificate page from policy indicating insurance provider, your name, policy number, dates and amount of coverage. Copies of insurance cards or payment receipts are not acceptable. Apply early to receive policy prior to deadline. Can take up to 6 weeks to receive policy from insurance company. School of Nursing does not make verbal verification. Your company can fax your policy certificate to us at (307) 766-4294.
  • Here are a few suggestions for malpractice insurance companies:
    • Healthcare Providers Service Organization
(also known as NSO - Nurses Service Organization)

This company requires you to be covered up to your level of licensure, typically RN, as well as being covered as a student in a nurse practitioner program if that is the program you are in. You must reflect both in the medical specialty section of your policy certificate.

    • Proliability (Chicago Insurance Company)
This company provides a broad ranging definition of coverage that does satisfy UW’s requirements and may be less expensive than other options.
    • Your Home Owners Insurance Agency or Other Agencies
      • Beware!  Some agencies that do not deal with nursing students on a regular basis may charge too much. Please comparison shop!
