1) For All Students, Undergraduate and Graduate

  • AfterCollege/AACN Nursing Scholarship Fund
    • AfterCollege, the leading employment website for nursing/allied health care students and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) have partnered to offer this new scholarship program for students pursuing professional nursing education programs. This scholarship program supports students who are seeking a baccalaureate, master's or doctoral degree in nursing. Special consideration will be given to students:
      • Enrolled in a master's or doctoral program with the goal of pursuing a nursing faculty career;
      • Completing an RN to baccalaureate program (BSN); or
      • Enrolled in an accelerated baccalaureate or master's degree nursing program.
    • Please note that all applicants must already be enrolled (not just accepted) at an AACN member institution. To check if your school is a member, see http://www.aacn.nche.edu/Memberservices/membdir.htm.
    • Who Qualifies? Nursing students enrolled in a baccalaureate, master's or doctoral degree program in nursing with a GPA of 3.25 or higher. Scholarships will be in the amount of $2,500. The deadlines are January 31, April 30, July 31 and October 31. Winners will be announced within 60 days of each deadline.

  • Army Nursing Scholarships
    Army ROTC offers 2,3 and 4 year Nursing scholarships to qualified individuals at The University of Wyoming Fay w. Whitney School of Nursing. This scholarship guarantees service in the Army Nurse Corps upon graduation and commissioning. 
     
  • Benefis Healthcare Foundation in Great Falls, MT Scholarship
    • The Healthcare Scholarship program is tied to a work commitment to Benefis Healthcare. The scholarships can provide up to $2,500 per semester. Due dates for applications are 5/15 for summer and fall consideration, and 10/1 for spring consideration.

  • Mabel C. Sargent Scholarship - Deadline February 1st

    • This Scholarship Application is available from the Wyoming Community Foundatiion (WYCF) Web site (http://www.wycf.org). Please read through the eligibility criteria below to see if you might qualify. The application is lengthy, needs a current transcript attached (you can request a transcript from Registration & Records) and you would deliver to the Foundation located in downtown Laramie (address on application form). This is an excellent scholarship (6 scholarships offered for $5,000 each). If you received this scholarship as a junior, you need to reapply, since it does not automatically carry into the senior year.
       
    • Eligibility Criteria for Mabel C. Sargent Scholarship:
      • Geographic requirements: Junior and senior nursing students of the University of Wyoming enrolled in a program leading to a B.S.N. degree may apply.
      • Academic requirements: Applicants should have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
         
  • Scholarships through Student Financial Aid Offices
    In general, the same financial aid is available to students who are seeking a degree through off-campus programs as to students who are seeking a degree in Laramie. Each of the community colleges has the book Student Financial Aid and Scholarships at Wyoming Colleges, which is published annually. In this book, you will find that the University of Wyoming has a section of scholarships for nursing students. Go to the UW Student Financial Aid Scholarship section.
     
  • Marge Wilson Nursing Scholarship
    This scholarship is no longer available for this year (2009)
     
  • Wyoming Legislative Scholarship Funds ("Wyoming Investment in Nursing - WYIN")
    Application deadline for academic year will be July 15

    • Contact Kathleen Bobbitt (bobbitt1@uwyo.edu) in Financial Aid after March 1st (information on new funding will be available after the Legislature has met). If you received this scholarship as a junior, you will receive it as a senior, but should contact K. Bobbitt to see if you need to do any additional paperwork.
       
    • Application deadline for the academic year will be July 15. You must be admitted to one of the options leading to a BSN degree. Junior and senior students will be considered first. Students with previous bachelor's degrees will be considered after the junior and senior students.
       
    • Submit application to Student Financial Aid Office, Knight Hall Room 174. This program was adopted by the 2003 Wyoming legislature. The funds are to assist with educational expenses as determined by the financial aid office. This is a program for undergraduate students accepted into the nursing program at the University of Wyoming. Three requirements that must be met to be considered for this funding are:
      • You must be admitted to the School of Nursing
      • You must be a resident of Wyoming or a Wyoming high school graduate
      • You must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
         
    • WYIN is a loan (up to $6,000 per academic year) which can be repaid by working in Wyoming as a nurse or nurse educator. Qualified work in Wyoming will be credited so that the applicant's WYIN loan balance is reduced on the basis of one full year of full-time employment repaying the loan balance for one academic year of enrollment. If an applicant fails to fulfill the requirements of repayment by qualified work, the funds will revert to a loan status and repayment will begin. Details of repayment and terms will be provided if an applicant is selected.
       
  • College of Health Sciences Scholarships

      • Must have a 3.0 or higher GPA
      • Must submit a scholarship application
      • Must sign a loan agreement
      • Must attend meeting in person or by phone to review contract with UW official
      • Acceptance to the accelerated nursing program
      • Repay through working as a registered nurse in Wyoming for two years or paying back the loan amount with interest
         
  • Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) / American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Scholarship

    • This is awarded to UW on a yearly basis through a competitive process. E-mail will be sent out if scholarship will be funded for 2009-2010
      • Five awards of $10,000 each ($2000-Fall, $4000-Spring, $4000-Summer)
      • Must submit a scholarship application
      • Successful applicant must meet a minimum of one of the following:
        - Under-represented in nursing: Racial/ethnic minorities, or male gender, or WUY rural/frontier isolated community resident
        - Disadvantage Background: site bound in WY, or under-employed, or financial hardship, or single parent, or documented learning disability
    • Sign a letter of Commitment and a Consent and Release form for RWJ

    This scholarship is from the Wyoming Council for Advanced Practice Nurses.
    • Application deadline: June 15th.
    • You must be a Wyoming resident or former Wyoming resident that plans on returning to Wyoming to practice.

  • Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) - Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP)
    • Reduced Tuition Costs for Eligible Nurse Practitioner Students
    • Being a resident of a WICHE-participating state qualifies you to seek reduced tuition costs through WRGP. If you are a resident of one of the following states, you can benefit from WRGP: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, and Washington. This program allows you to come to the University of Wyoming under resident tuition rates.
    • You need to be officially accepted into our graduate nursing program before the WRGP benefit kicks in.
    • You cannot utilize these benefits as a Non-Degree Seeking Graduate Student.
    • Once you have been officially accepted into one of the MS Program options, let Debbie Shoefelt know that you qualify for WICHE's WRGP so that paperwork may be completed - email shoefelt@uwyo.edu
  • AANP Foundation Scholarship & Grant Program
    • Provides educational schoarships for MSN-NP, Post-MS NP, and Doctoral education and project and research grands (for student NPs and practicing NPs) exclusively to members of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
