MS STUDENTS:
Participation Policy

for
Health Sciences Commencement Ceremony
and School of Nursing Convocation Ceremony

Responsibility of Student:

  • Notify Debbie Shoefelt by March 1 of intent to attend May commencement/convocation ceremonies.  This is required so that the student will be included in graduation information mailings.

Responsibility of Thesis/Non-Thesis Chair:

  • Notify Debbie Shoefelt by April 15 regarding the status of their thesis/non-thesis advisees (have successfully defended, plan to defend before May ceremonies, defending in summer, etc.).

In order to be eligible to participate in May Commencement/Convocation ceremonies, students must meet one of the following four criteria:

  1. Officially graduated this past December or be officially graduating in May.  Requirements for spring graduates:  All course work must be successfully completed by end of spring semester, Graduation/Title form filed by specified deadline for spring with the Graduate School, thesis/non-thesis must be successfully defended, final copies of thesis submitted to the Graduate School (if completing a thesis), and the Completion of Requirements form filed with the Graduate School by specified deadline for spring.

  2. Thesis/Non-Thesis must be successfully defended before May graduation, but some summer course/clinical work could be completed during summer.  Official graduation date would be August.

  3. Thesis/Non-Thesis projected (by chair) to be completed by end of summer and committee members agree to be available during summer.  Could also still have some summer course/clinical work to be completed during summer.  Official graduation date would be August.

  4. Post-Master's FNP/EDUC students - Students who are completing course work requirements for this program by the end of summer are eligible to participate in commencement/convocation ceremonies.  Post-Master's students aren't granted a degree for this program, but are recognized for their accomplishment of the program.
