Each student submits an application for admission to candidacy, Program of Study form, to the Graduate School at the beginning of the student's second semester, if full‑time or at the beginning of the third semester, if part‑time. This form spells out the course work the student will take in their program of study. In turn the University agrees to award the degree specified if the course of study is successfully completed within a six-year period. A student will be considered a degree candidate when his/her program of study is approved by the Graduate School. Your Program of Study should be approved by the Graduate School prior to appointment of your graduate research (Thesis/Non-Thesis) committee and subsequent filing of the Graduation/Title form in the final semester. The procedures for filing your Program of Study form are listed below: |

Within the Master’s Program in Nursing you will note that the majority of the courses to be completed are pre-defined. Select areas within the curriculum have potential choices (i.e. research option – thesis/non-thesis). Once you and your academic advisor have determined which courses you plan to complete within those areas of choice you will be ready to begin the process of filing your Program of Study form.
The Program of Study form will be generated through the School of Nursing staff. Download Program of Study Data Form to your computer; complete and save. Email completed form to Debbie Shoefelt (shoefelt@uwyo.edu). Your Program of Study form will be generated using this information.
Once the Program of Study has been generated a hard copy of the document will be mailed to the student for their signature. Upon receipt of the form back from the student, signatures of your advisor and the Dean will be obtained, and the form will be forwarded to the Graduate School for final approval. The Graduate School will notify the student regarding final approval of their program.
If transferring credits from another institution that may be applicable towards degree requirements, please be sure that an official transcript has been sent and received by the School of Nursing. Our office will obtain a current UW transcript. Transfer courses must have prior approval of the School of Nursing for acceptance towards fulfillment of degree requirements (provide a syllabus for review). Credits earned and applied towards any previous graduate degree may not be used again to meet requirements of this master’s degree.
