Sargent". Please read through the eligibility criteria below to see if you might qualify. The application is lengthy, needs a current transcript attached (you can request a transcript from Registration & Records) and you would deliver to the Foundation located in downtown Laramie (address on application form). This is an excellent scholarship (6 scholarships offered for $2,500 each). If you received this scholarship as a junior, you need to reapply, since it does not automatically carry into the senior year.

Eligibility Criteria for Mabel C. Sargent Scholarship:

  • Geographic requirements: Junior and senior nursing students of the University of Wyoming enrolled in a program leading to a B.S.N. degree may apply.

  • Academic requirements: Applicants should have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

  1. Wyoming Legislative Scholarship Funds:

Contact Kathleen Bobbitt in Financial Aid after March 1st (information on new funding will be available after the Legislature has met).  If you received this scholarship as a junior, you will receive it as a senior, but should contact K. Bobbitt to see if you need to do any additional paperwork.

  • Wyoming Legislative Funding - "Wyoming Investment in Nursing - WYIN"
Download Funding Application by clicking this link.
Application deadline for the academic year will be June 30. You must be admitted to one of the options leading to a BSN degree. Junior and senior students will be considered first. Students with previous bachelor's degrees will be considered after the junior and senior students. Submit application to Student Financial Aid Office, Knight Hall Room 174. This program was adopted by the 2003 Wyoming legislature. The funds are to assist with educational expenses as determined by the financial aid office. This is a program for undergraduate students accepted into the nursing program at the University of Wyoming. Three requirements that must be met to be considered for this funding are:

    • You must be admitted to the School of Nursing

    • You must be a resident of Wyoming or a Wyoming high school graduate

    • You must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • WYIN is a loan (up to $6,000 per academic year) which can be repaid by working in Wyoming as a nurse or nurse educator. Qualified work in Wyoming will be credited so that the applicant's WYIN loan balance is reduced on the basis of one full year of full-time employment repaying the loan balance for one academic year of enrollment. If an applicant fails to fulfill the requirements of repayment by qualified work, the funds will revert to a loan status and repayment will begin. Details of repayment and terms will be provided if an applicant is selected.
