Student Policies & Requirements / 2008-2009

 

As part of your acceptance into the nursing major component for the Basic BSN, you will be expected to provide documentation and/or abide by the following School of Nursing policies and requirements. It is your responsibility to keep these requirements current throughout the completion of the program. Failure to do so will result in your being prohibited from attending clinical.

Start obtaining information requested according to dates as noted in links below. DO NOT wait until the last minute!

    å Due no later than 7/15/08

    Please submit a picture of yourself (that actually looks like you!).

    • A digital photo (.jpg file) is preferred. You can email it as an attachment to Claire@uwyo.edu or bring it in on disk or CD.
    • If hard copy is submitted, the picture should be no larger than 3" x 3" (can be smaller). If your picture is larger than the 3x3 dimensions, it will be cropped to fit any possible display. Submit the picture to the address noted at the top of this page.
    • The School will display photos of our students (with first names and last initials), faculty and staff in a wall display so that we can become familiar with one another. The display is a public accessible presentation of your picture.
    • You will need to complete and submit the Photo Release Form authorizing the use of your picture for the wall display (form found in step #3 below).
    • Your picture will also be displayed in the School of Nursing database with your file. Only nursing faculty and staff will have access to that database.

  1. Requirements for Nursing Courses/Clinicals

      Click into link for vital information.

    • Transportation

      Students admitted to the nursing major are expected to arrange their own transportation for clinical courses, because they need to travel to clinical agencies and home visit sites held locally and out of town.

    • Student Handbook and Course Syllabi
      å Due 8/25/08

      Bring your copy of the 2008-2009 Composite Handbook (BSN section) along with course syllabi to first class meeting of each fall nursing course. Download handbook by clicking the underlined link above. The course syllabi should be available through individual course eCompanion shells within the week prior to the beginning of the semester. Print off copies of each to bring to class and orientation.

      You can pre-order your course textbooks through the UW Bookstore. Click the link to go to their web site or call them to order at (307) 766-3264.

    • Orientations - Attendance is Mandatory!

      Monitor the web calendar to keep abreast of any time/location changes
      1. Nursing Orientation - NURS 3470
        Reserve entire day
        Date: Tuesday, August 26, 2008

        Time
        : 9:00am - 5:00pm
      2. Orientation to Clinical Simulation Center (CSC)/Skills Labs to be included in above orientation. The first few weeks of NURS 3470 will be spent learning skills in the CSC. Students are required to keep Tuesdays/Thursdays open for clinical courses.
      3. Official Introduction into Professional Nursing Orientation
        Date: Tuesday, August 26, 2008
        Location
        : TBA
        Time: 5:30pm - 7:30pm
        Must come in professional dress - no jeans, no shorts, no t-shirts etc.
      4. Safety and OSHA Orientation - To be held at the start of fall semester (Location/Time TBA at the orientations on Tuesday, August 26, 2008). Failure to successfully complete this requirement will result in your ineligibility to attend clinicals.
  2. Heads Up on Fees!

    You will be charged a total of $276 in fees as follows (These fees have been approved through the UW Fee Committee and will be posted in the Fee Book for 2008-09):

    • $176.00 / NURS 3670: Program Assessment, Travel Fee & Lab Fee

    • $100.00 / NURS 4435: Program Assessment & Test Practice Fee

  3. Heads-up on Drug Testing

    Drug screening may be required by some clinical sites.
