Our undergraduate program prepares you to practice professional nursing. Here you can obtain the knowledge and skills to meet changing health care needs; to practice leadership; to accept the commitment for continued growth; to give high quality nursing care to individuals, families, and groups of people; and to also prepare for graduate study in nursing if you choose.

Students gain clinical practice experience in hospitals, community health agencies, homes, extended care facilities, and schools in Wyoming and surrounding states. Under the direction of faculty, students provide care to clients and develop skills in critical thinking, leadership, and utilizing research. Students spend the last eight weeks of the program in a transition practicum experience away from the home campus.

Students complete two years of prerequisite courses before they are admitted to the nursing major. The pre-professional program is open at the freshman level to all students accepted to UW. Acceptance to the University does not guarantee admission to the nursing major. The nursing major begins in the fall semester of the junior year. The number of students admitted to the nursing major is limited. Admission is competitive and applicants meeting minimum requirements are not guaranteed admission. There is a separate application and fee for admission to the School of Nursing.
