Meet Mary Woolsey, RN, BSN...

"The smaller class size and individualized attention from the instructors makes for a great learning experience at UW..." [Read more about Mary and her UW experiences below.)

My name is Mary Woolsey. I live in Wheatland, Wyoming, which is just about an hour drive from the University of Wyoming campus in Laramie. My family consists of my husband of 16 years, Scott, and our two teenage sons, Adam and Blake. I have worked full time in public health nursing for the past seven years, mostly with the maternal/child population, and in a variety of settings before that. I am happy to say I am currently a student at the University of Wyoming in the Family Nurse Practitioner program of study. I began my career in nursing in 1981, first as an LPN, then as an ADN graduate. In 2001, after many years of consideration, I decided I wanted to pursue my BSN with the ultimate goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. UW had just started its online RN/BSN completion program then and I knew the time was right. I completed my BSN in 2003 and began taking some master's level courses. Fall 2004 I was formally admitted to the FNP program and the journey has begun! By taking classes part-time, I will be on track to graduate in the summer of 2006 and hope to practice for a long time to come in my rural Wyoming community.  I would never have been able to consider advancing my nursing career without UW's online BSN completion program. It allowed me to be able to continue working full-time while going to school and not have to attend on-campus courses.  Also, many of the FNP courses are on-line or require occasional visits to campus. Right now I am working with faculty to arrange my first clinical experience sites – how exciting! The smaller class size and individualized attention from the instructors makes for a great learning experience at UW. I recommend UW’s School of Nursing to those just starting their nursing education as well as those interested in pursuing additional nursing education.
