In addition to being reviewed by the University of Wyoming College of
Arts and
Sciences, the Department of Music is regularly reviewed for accreditation by
the National
Association of Schools of Music and the Wyoming Professional Teaching
Standards
Board. The undergraduate student learning outcomes for the Department of
Music are
developed in response to those agencies, the standards and goals of the
faculty, and the needs of the students themselves.
Graduates of the UW Department of Music will develop the skills, concepts, and sensitivities essential to the professional life of a musician. (NASM Handbook, p. 85)
• Students will demonstrate excellence as solo and ensemble performers to provide a basis for a professional career as a musician.
• Students will demonstrate specific knowledge in music theory, music history, and instrumental or vocal pedagogy to provide a basis for a professional career as a performing musician.
• Students will demonstrate the ability to think, speak, and write clearly and effectively about the art of music.
